ABOUT US
In 1992, Dan Nolan started as an assistant grave digging and vault services job at the local Haverstraw cemeteries. A short time in, he was promoted to head of operations. This led him to purchase the company and equipment needed to begin Dan Nolan, Inc. in 2000. Dan had a 10 x 10 office used as his company's home base. Within the first few months of having his company, he expanded the services to many cemeteries throughout Rockland County. In the meantime, Dan formed a relationship with the Mackey family, operators of Mt. Repose Cemetery and Troup Monuments. The trust within the relationship grew as they began having Dan set some of their monuments. In 2007, after witnessing Dan’s strong work ethic, reliability & commitment, the Mackey family entrusted their monument legacy for Dan to carry forward with his new company, Nolan Monuments. At this time, it was apparent that a larger office was needed to meet with families. Soon after Dan decided it was time to open his first real office across the street from St. Peter’s and Mt. Repose cemeteries in Haverstraw.
In 2012, Nolan Monuments was growing quickly and ready to expand to be more accessible to assist families in more cemeteries. Being a Blauvelt native, Dan knew the perfect spot. An old gas station located on Route 303 that was an eyesore for many years. After a ton of work and care, our family opened the doors to our “home base” with hopes everyone could find comfort here.
During this time Dan married his wife Laura and they had two children, Kelly and Kyle. From a young age the kids would spend many days with their dad in the cemeteries, which made them very familiar with the family business. As teens, Kelly would spend time in the office after school, learning more about the monuments and how the office worked. Kyle would lend a hand to help the crews in the cemeteries with burials and setting gravestones. After high school, while going to RCC both Kelly and Kyle started working full-time with their dad as their mentor.
After graduating college, Kelly decided Nolan Monuments was her main focus. As she gained experience she learned how to work with families in these difficult times, listening and understanding what would make the gravestone special for each of their loved ones. Learning each cemetery's rules and regulations so she could best guide the families that came for her assistance. It did not take long for Kelly to become an expert on designs, patience and the true compassion that was needed to create each beautiful memorial with each family.
Today, Kelly and all of our office personnel take great pride in how we work with each individual family, knowing that we are taking care of something that is extremely difficult and will be there for years to come.
